On Wednesday, May 12th, 2010, ibrahim abdul-matin conducted an interactive workshop on faith, spirituality, and the environment at Faith House Manhattan. Faith House organizes "Living Rooms" to foster interfaith dialogue and experiential learning about other religions. ibrahim, known for his unconventional educational methods, asked the multi-faith audience to draw a "body map" showing how parts of their bodies interact with the environment. He also asked questions about leaders vs. followers, movements vs. campaigns, and individual vs. collective responsibilities.
"People learn best when challenged to think outside the box," said ibrahim abdul-matin about his workshop. "I like to push the envelope, especially when talking about Islam and the environment." Bowie Snodgrass, Executive Director of Faith House, organized the event. "Faith House has had Muslims present on Ramadan, the art of prayer, and now, the environment. There's so much to learn about each other's beliefs!" Abdul-Matin drew on examples from his book, "Green Deen: What Islam Teaches About Protecting the Planet," for this workshop.
