On Saturday, April 3rd, ibrahim abdul-matin helped mobilize Muslim Students in Atlanta, GA during the Muslim Student Association East Zone conference. The conference featured prominent Muslim scholars including Imam Siraj Wahaj from Brooklyn, NY. The conference drew hundreds of Muslim college students from all over the east coast.
Before ibrahim's Saturday afternoon lecture, conference attendees participated in a park clean-up event. Bilal Ahmed, Community Service Chair for the Muslim Students Association was enthusiastic about connecting Islam to the environment. "Community service is central to the Deen of Islam. Ibrahim's Green Deen mantra reminds us that the environment needs to be taken care of just as much as we need to take care of each other."
"Green Deen" highlights Muslims all over the country who are protecting the planet. The book is being published by Berrett-Koehler and will be in stores October, 2010.
