On Saturday, April 17, 2010, ibrahim abdul-matin kicked off "Islam Awareness Week" at Ohio State University by calling Muslim students to action around the environment. Islam Awareness Week is organized by Muslim Students Associations nationwide to open dialogue about Islam and Muslims across campuses.
"Students start movements. They are organizers, leaders, and have incredible passion for their causes. Students will be at the center of the Green Deen Movement." Moataz Ahmed, lead organizer of Islam Awareness Week at Ohio State was happy to start the week off with Abdul-Matin. "Living a Green Deen makes total sense for Muslims. We spend so much time talking about Islam as a religion of peace - it's time to start talking about Islam as a religion that also calls for protection of the planet."
Abdul-Matin encouraged Ohio State students to think about how much waste they produce and water they use and how to reduce both.
