Ryan Mahoney, CAIR-NY board member presents the award to ibrahim abdul-matin.
On May 15, 2010, ibrahim abdul-matin, author of "Green Deen: What Islam Teaches About Protecting the Planet," was honored by the Council of American Islamic Relations as New York City's "Steward of Progress." Ibrahim has worked tirelessly to shed light on the contributions of Muslims to the environmental movement.
"I am humbled and honored to receive this award from CAIR. This organization has done everything to protect the civil liberties of Muslims, non-Muslims, pretty much everyone. They epitomize just how capable Muslims are and how much they can contribute to American society. Similarly, as my book shares, Muslims have significantly contributed to the progress of the environmental movement."
Faiza Ali, director of community affairs for CAIR-NY was happy to present Abdul-Matin with the award. "He's our go-to guy here in NYC when it comes to environmental issues. He brings people of all faiths together, not to debate theology, but to find common ground in our need to protect the planet." Abdul-Matin's book, "Green Deen," will be available everywhere books are sold in October, 2010.
